Biography

Hi, I'm News Channel 3's Tim Simpson. Thanks for visiting my weather page.

I've been the Chief Meteorologist for News Channel 3 since 1994. I was born in Memphis and raised in Middleton, TN, about 65 miles east of Memphis, so I'm very familiar with my home area.

Since coming to News Channel 3, I've tried to raise the awareness of severe weather to our viewers. March, April and May are the primary months for severe weather in the Mid South with November being a secondary month. However, one of the most active months for severe weather came in January of 1999 which proves that severe weather can strike at any time.

We know the threat severe weather and tornadoes pose to this area. That's why over 5 years ago, News Channel 3 invested in the area's first ONE MILLION watt radar so that we could track these storms with great clarity. At the time we were one of only three TV stations in the nation with a radar that powerful. That investment pays off every time we encounter severe storms. The information we gather from First Defense Doppler 3 enables us to give our viewers the advance warning they expect and deserve. Bottom line: It saves lives!

Aside from having the Mid South's first one million watt radar, News Channel 3 was first to introduce a network of live, real time weather stations. I remember as a child watching the weatherman as he announced the temperature at Memphis International Airport. I thought to myself "but I don't live at the airport". Precisely! And neither do 99% of our viewers. It was 10 years ago that News Channel 3 started building a network of live weather stations from Dyersburg to Bolivar, Hughes to Helena, Southaven to Oxford. You can log into the nearest Weather Bug site through our website or download Weather Bug to your computer. Live real time weather is only a click away with Weather Bug.

I'm proud to be associated with a TV station like News Channel 3. We're the Memphis station On Your Side. Thanks for stopping by!
